A 10-week Lecture Course with Dr Charlotte Ball

Lemon and Grey Heritage Education has announced the below 10-week lecture course Vikings in the Midlands taking place on Friday evenings at 7.30 pm commencing 8th May at the Grade II listed timber framed 15th century Cruck House, Stowe Street, Lichfield, WS13 6BP.  The course will be run by Dr Charlotte Ball, expert in her field and well known to us at SA&HS.  Details of what to expect from each evening are provided in the information below.  Tickets must be booked in advance - go to the link appended - please note that places may be limited.

This exploratory and fun history course delves into the thrilling history of the Viking Great Army. We will focus on their famous winter camp in Repton, as well as who the Vikings were, what they believed and why they invaded the Midlands kingdom of Mercia in the mid 800s

Along the way, you’ll be introduced to a range of evidence we have about the Viking Age and our own local connections to it, including: Archaeology, Historical records, Myths and sagas, DNA, Place names, Historical crafts.

Each week will start with a lecture on a different topic. Then, during and after a tea break, questions, discussions and wild tangents are all encouraged! Aimed at all levels of knowledge – there is something for everyone.

The course is written and delivered by historian and public speaker Dr Charlotte Ball, who has her PhD in Early Medieval art and iconography from the University of Leicester.
